Description
Lake Kawaguchi (河口湖) is the second-largest and most accessible of the Fuji Five Lakes, located in Fujikawaguchiko, Yamanashi Prefecture, known for iconic views of Mount Fuji.
Lake Kawaguchi, Lake Saiko, and Lake Shojiko share the exact same surface elevation (830.5m). Scientists believe they remain connected underground through porous volcanic rock. Historically, they were part of a single prehistoric lake called Senoumi.
The lake is world-famous for “Sakasa Fuji” (the inverted reflection of Mount Fuji), which can be seen on the water’s surface on clear, calm days.
